A Place of My Own Overview
Raymond McLain has been active in bluegrass for more than 20 years. He started out with his father and sisters in Kentucky's McLain Family Band. In 1989 he joined one of the premiere bluegrass outfits in the country: Jim & Jesse & the Virginia Boys. Jim and Jesse join him here, along with fiddlers Glen Duncan and Blaine Sprouse, harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens, and McLain's brother Michael and sister Ruth, on guitar and bass, respectively. "Here's a musical home that Raymond McLain can truly call his own. Herein are several of Raymond's originals, some unusual covers (a banjo version of 'Kitten on the Keys' is just a start), and some remarkable arrangements of bluegrass standards. Believe me, Raymond's place is one where all of us can sit down, put our feet up, kick back and absorb some of the finest acoustic instrumental sounds anywhere." --Mike Fleischer, WDCB-FM, Glen Ellyn, IL
